Gameweek 6 is done. After Monday’s match at Coventry the average across the game stands at 55 points and the highest score at 131. The game has not yet confirmed the final bonus points, so both figures could still move slightly. The player of the gameweek was Chelsea’s Jordan Henderson (18 points) — Saturday’s matches are covered in detail in our Saturday review. This piece covers Sunday, Monday, how our picks did and what has changed ahead of Gameweek 7.

Liverpool 0-3 Manchester City — Anfield without Szoboszlai
Sunday’s most important news came before kick-off. Dominik Szoboszlai, owned by 28.5% of managers, was not in the squad. Andoni Iraola explained that the midfielder came back from international duty with a tight hamstring and did not feel fully fit. According to reports, it was the first match Szoboszlai had missed through injury in around two and a half years. His absence only became clear when the team sheet was released — more than a day after the deadline.
The first half was goalless. The game turned in the 62nd minute, when Ryan Gravenberch was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Jérémy Doku. Minutes later Haaland finished after a Doku shot deflected into his path. Doku, on since the 56th minute, then curled in the second himself, and Rayan Cherki completed the scoring after a team move. It was Liverpool’s first defeat of the season.
For FPL: Haaland scored 6 points, 12 as captain — and he was the most-captained player in the game. Doku collected 12 points in 34 minutes at 1.1% ownership, Cherki 10, and Donnarumma 9 for a clean sheet. Gravenberch is suspended until 25 October.
And to be honest about ourselves: our model rated this the toughest fixture of the gameweek (difficulty 4 for both sides), which is why it only had Haaland sixth among captaincy options. Haaland scored and returned 12 points with the armband — more than our number one, Saka (4), and Bruno Fernandes (2). This time the managers who simply stuck with Haaland were right.
Coventry 4-1 Newcastle — a first home win in 25 years
The promoted side, managed by Frank Lampard, won a Premier League home game for the first time in 25 years. Jack Rudoni scored a penalty in the 6th minute (Newcastle goalkeeper Lukáš Horníček fouled Sidiki Cherif), Cherif doubled the lead just after the break, and after Sven Botman pulled one back in the 70th minute, Ellis Simms (with his first touch off the bench) and Stephen Mfuni — now Coventry’s youngest Premier League scorer — sealed it. It was Coventry’s second win in a row after their 1-0 at Nottingham Forest, and it lifted them out of the relegation zone.
For FPL it was a bad night for Newcastle owners. Lewis Hall (20.8% owned) played 90 minutes and scored 0 points, Barnes 2, Wissa 2. Hall and Barnes were in our Recommended Squad. The biggest winner from the match was Cherif — 12 points at 0.1% ownership, for £5.0m.
Sunday’s other matches
Crystal Palace 3-1 Nottingham Forest. Forest led in the 3rd minute through Dan Ndoye, but Palace turned it round: Daichi Kamada scored his first Premier League goal, Jefferson Lerma bundled in a corner just before half-time, and Yeremy Pino struck after a Matz Sels save. Oliver Glasner returned to Selhurst Park as the opposing manager and lost. Gibbs-White (15% owned) scored 2 points.
Hull 2-2 Everton. Joe Gelhardt opened the scoring with a chip after an Ainsley Maitland-Niles error, Everton replied through Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (a header) and Thierno Barry, and substitute Mohamed Belloumi rescued a point. With a goal, an assist and maximum bonus, Dewsbury-Hall scored 13 points at 5.7% ownership. Everton remain unbeaten in the league.
How our picks did
Our Recommended Squad for Gameweek 6 scored 53 points, two below the average. João Pedro (12), Rogers (9) and Mbeumo (8) carried it, while captain Saka (2, so 4 with the armband), Hall (0), Tavernier (1) and Leno (2) dragged it down. The full Gameweek 6 squad stays in the archive.
| Captaincy option | Our rank (Thursday) | As captain |
|---|---|---|
| Saka | 1st | 4 |
| Rogers | 2nd | 18 |
| Bruno Fernandes | 3rd | 2 |
| Tavernier | 4th | 2 |
| Guéhi | 5th | 12 |
| Haaland | 6th | 12 |
| Mbeumo | 7th | 16 |
| João Pedro | added on Saturday | 24 |
What held up: João Pedro’s return for the Bournemouth game (12 points, exactly as we wrote in September), the warnings on Kostoulas and Brobbey, and De Cuyper (15 points). What did not: Saka as number one, Bruno with the best profile, Fulham’s first match in their “easiest fixtures” window, and Newcastle’s defence.
The model after the gameweek: two Strong Buys, both from City
After the ratings were recalculated to include Gameweek 6, two Manchester City players sit at the top with a “Strong Buy” verdict: Semenyo — 91 (up from 86) and Haaland — 90 (up from 88). Semenyo has also lost the flag he carried before Sunday. Both lead our captain picks for Gameweek 7 — City host Ipswich on Saturday, a fixture rated 2.
- Up: Cherki 84 → 88, Guéhi 87 → 89, Van Hecke and Ndiaye both 86 → 88, O’Reilly 75 → 80, Neco Williams 79 → 84.
- Down: Szoboszlai 85 → 82 (flag), Mbeumo 89 → 86, Bruno Fernandes 89 → 87, Hall 86 → 84.
- Fulham: the model reacted to the defeat at Ipswich — Iwobi and King both 87 → 83, Castagne 84 → 79, Leno 74 → 70.
The market after the gameweek
There have been 44 price changes since the deadline, 10 of them rises. João Pedro (£7.8m), Rogers (£7.9m), Groß (£6.0m) and De Cuyper (£5.1m) have gone up, while Semenyo has dropped to £8.3m — even though the model now rates him the best player in the game. The most-bought players are De Cuyper, João Pedro, Groß and Cherki. The most-sold: Isak, Bruno Fernandes, Szoboszlai, Gakpo and Schade.
Ahead of Gameweek 7
The deadline is again on Saturday 17 October at 11:00 UK, because the first match (Everton v Chelsea) kicks off at 12:30. The key flags:
- Szoboszlai (28.5%) — hamstring, 75% chance. Liverpool travel to Brentford on Saturday.
- Schade (15.3%) — shoulder, 75%. Brentford host that very Liverpool side.
- Shaw (6.8%) and Reece James (5.2%) — 75% each.
- Isak and Gakpo — no return date. Gravenberch suspended.
- Tzolis is expected back around 24 October, Brobbey around 25 October.

Results and scorers verified against external sources (including NBC Sports, ESPN, Sky Sports, Liverpool FC, Newcastle United and beIN Sports), while points, ownership, prices and ratings come from the official game API and our engine, as of Tuesday 13 October morning.
