Tottenham have tied down one of their most important players, with Micky van de Ven signing a new five-year contract. Fabrizio Romano confirmed the deal as official, following Pedro Porro’s renewal earlier in the summer.
The new terms run to 2031, with an option to extend to 2032, and come with a significant pay rise that makes the 25-year-old Netherlands international one of the highest earners at the club. It is a major boost for a side that has spent heavily this window and is building for the long term.
The manager was decisive in the decision. Van de Ven had been weighing up his future in north London before Roberto de Zerbi’s appointment, and the Italian is understood to have played a key role in convincing the defender to commit. De Zerbi wanted him kept at all costs, and he is central to the project going forward.
Van de Ven joined Spurs from Wolfsburg in 2023 and quickly became a first-choice centre-back, his pace and recovery defending making him one of the most reliable young defenders in the Premier League. Locking him down, on the back of Porro’s new deal, signals Tottenham’s intent to build their defence around a settled core.
