Manchester City have agreed a deal to sign goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli from Olympique de Marseille. Fabrizio Romano reported the move as closed between the clubs, with the 34-year-old Argentina international authorised to fly in for a medical.
Rulli is set to sign a two-year contract until June 2028, with an option for a further year to 2029. The fee was undisclosed, with Marseille having held out for around €3.5m after turning down City’s opening offer.
He arrives to serve as understudy to Gianluigi Donnarumma, filling the gap left by James Trafford’s move to Leeds United. Donnarumma leads City’s goalkeeping options in our AI goalkeeper ratings, and Rulli is expected to provide experienced, non-playing cover rather than push for the starting spot.
The move marks a return to City for Rulli, a decade on. He spent the first half of the 2016/17 season on loan at the club but never made an official appearance, before building his career at Real Sociedad, Villarreal, Ajax and, since 2024, Marseille, where he racked up 73 appearances.
City, now under Enzo Maresca, continue to fine-tune their squad. For FPL there is nothing to act on here — a backup keeper will not appear on team sheets — but it settles City’s goalkeeping depth behind Donnarumma for the season ahead.
