France are through to the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup. Second-half goals from Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé beat Morocco 2-0 in Boston — a rematch of the memorable 2022 semi-final, and the same painful outcome for the Atlas Lions.
It was not all smooth for Les Bleus. Mbappé missed a first-half penalty and Morocco held firm until the hour mark. Then a Moroccan turnover deep in their own half handed Mbappé the ball, and he powered his finish past Bono — his eighth goal of the tournament, level with Lionel Messi in the Golden Boot race, and the 20th of his World Cup career (per CNN and ESPN).
Six minutes later Dembélé finished the job — his fifth goal of the tournament, to go with two assists. Morocco’s attack never got going: an expected-goals count of just 0.04 in the first half tells the story of the night.
In the semi-final, France will face the winner of Spain v Belgium.
