FPL players to avoid in GW1: big names, bad numbers

Fantasy PL Edge — FPL players to avoid in GW1: big names, bad numbers

Every launch list has traps: big names whose price or popularity runs ahead of what the numbers support. Here is where our model politely disagrees with the crowd.

Three to think twice about

  • Isak (LIV, £9.0m, rating 60 — Risky) — the biggest gap between price and rating in the game. A £9.0m forward the model ranks outside its top tiers is a £9.0m problem, even in Liverpool’s lovely fixtures.
  • Kroupi Jr (BOU, £7.5m, rating 71 — Hold) — the popularity trap: 29.4% ownership for a middling rating, at the club with the hardest opening five in the league (City away in GW1, Liverpool in GW5).
  • Gyökeres (ARS, £7.5m, rating 79 — Hold) — not a bad pick, but at the same price as João Pedro (87) and £0.5m below Thiago (87), the model sees better homes for the money until his role is proven.

And the injured premiums

Ekitiké (LIV, £7.5m) is out until late December — don’t let him sneak into a draft on name value. “Avoid” never means forever: ratings update hourly on the Rankings page, and the moment the numbers turn, so will we.
