Fantasy Premier League has revealed the first wave of changes for the 2026/27 season, with the new game expected to go live within days. Here’s everything that’s officially confirmed so far.
Two sets of chips return
Managers again get two full sets of chips across the campaign — eight in total. Each half of the season comes with its own Wildcard, Free Hit, Triple Captain and Bench Boost. The first set must be used before the Gameweek deadline at 13:30 GMT on Saturday 2 January 2027 and cannot be carried into the second half. You can still roll up to five free transfers.
Defensive contribution points stay — and the bonus system is tweaked
The defensive contribution points introduced last season are staying. Alongside that, the Bonus Points System has been adjusted to reduce overlap with those defensive points and to improve the bonus-point chances of goalkeepers, full-backs and attacking players.
Live updates during matches
For the first time, your mini-league positions and overall rank will update live as matches are played. Projected bonus points will now show after just 20 minutes of each game, and Head-to-Head and FPL Cup ties will also update in real time.
A later Gameweek lockdown
The squad lockout moves to 09:00 UK time on the day after the Gameweek’s final match — later than the previous “one hour after the final whistle.”
New tools in the game
FPL is adding a Player Price Predictor that tracks daily transfer activity, richer squad views showing Fixture Difficulty and ownership, a career-history comparison across seasons, and Adobe Express Gameweek recaps with team badges.
What hasn’t changed
No changes have been announced to the £100.0m budget or the standard squad rules — 15 players, with the usual position and club limits.
Still to come
FPL says further announcements will follow, including more features, player position changes and the first player prices of the new season. An exact launch date hasn’t been confirmed, but the game is expected imminently — last year it opened on 21 July.
