Manchester United have officially confirmed the signing of Cristian Orozco, an 18-year-old Colombian midfielder, from Fortaleza CEIF. The club announced the deal on Thursday, completing a move that had been agreed in principle almost a year ago.
United struck the agreement last September, but FIFA regulations that restrict international transfers for players under 18 meant Orozco could not formally join until he came of age. With the paperwork now processed, the permanent transfer — reported to be worth around $1m — is done.
A defensive midfielder developed in the Rojo FC academy, Orozco is known for his composure on the ball, physical presence and range of passing. He made five first-team appearances for Fortaleza in Colombia’s Categoría Primera A last season and has represented his country through the youth ranks up to Under-17 level, where he captained Colombia at the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
For now, Orozco is expected to feature for United’s Under-21s, with a view to stepping up to the senior squad in the future. He becomes United’s sixth summer signing — and one clearly aimed at the long term rather than the immediate first-team picture, the latest addition to a midfield the club has been steadily rebuilding after bringing in Youri Tielemans earlier in the window.
There is nothing here for FPL managers yet — a teenager bound for the Under-21s will not trouble team sheets this season. But at roughly $1m for a highly rated youth international, it is exactly the kind of low-risk, long-horizon bet United have leaned into with their recent recruitment.
