Bruno Guimarães closing in on Arsenal move as Newcastle line up a replacement

UPDATE (4 August): It is done — Fabrizio Romano reports “here we go”. Arsenal and Newcastle have agreed a fee of £75m (some sources say up to £80m), with Bruno’s personal terms in place since July. He becomes Mikel Arteta’s new midfielder; only the medical and paperwork remain before the official announcement.

Bruno Guimarães is on the verge of joining Arsenal, and Newcastle are already preparing to replace their captain — with new head coach Matthias Jaissle involved in the plans. The move, reported by Fabrizio Romano and others, is at the medical stage but not yet official.

Where the deal stands

  • Arsenal and Newcastle have agreed a fee reported at around £80m (about €90m plus bonuses).
  • Bruno has agreed personal terms on a five-year contract.
  • A medical is scheduled (reports point to Monday) as the final step.
  • Nothing is signed yet — this is the closing stage, not a completed transfer.

Newcastle’s next move

Under new boss Matthias Jaissle — appointed from Al Ahli after Eddie Howe’s departure — Newcastle are lining up a midfield replacement, with reports of a bid worth around £34m being prepared. Jaissle’s high-pressing, vertical style leans heavily on energetic midfielders, so a new signing is a priority before the season starts.
