Fulham complete €40m Gonzalo García signing from Real Madrid — and Palacios could be next

Fulham have completed the signing of Gonzalo García from Real Madrid, as reported by Fabrizio Romano and confirmed by multiple sources. It’s the London club’s biggest move of the window.

The details: €40m fixed fee plus €2m in add-ons. Real Madrid keep plenty in the deal, though — a 30% sell-on clause, a buy-back option and matching rights; Fulham are acquiring 70% of the player’s economic rights.

The driving force is Fulham manager Álvaro Arbeloa — a former Real defender who knew García from the academy and made him a priority. The 22-year-old forward, a La Fábrica graduate, broke through last season with 8 goals in 39 appearances (6 in La Liga).

And it may not be the end of Fulham’s shopping in Madrid. The club are closing in on Cesar Palacios too — a 21-year-old attacking midfielder from Real Madrid Castilla, another of Arbeloa’s academy men. That move isn’t done yet, though (advanced talks, no fee disclosed).
