Manchester United have pulled the plug on the Éderson transfer. Fabrizio Romano reported on Friday evening that the club will not continue its pursuit of the Atalanta midfielder.
The reason: fitness doubts. Éderson suffered a meniscus injury last summer, and United — who had agreed a package built around a £35m base fee plus up to £4m in add-ons — wanted guarantees and a thorough medical before signing off. Those guarantees evidently did not arrive (per GiveMeSport and OneFootball, both citing Romano).
It is a sharp U-turn from Thursday, when the second part of the player’s medical was expected to go ahead following Brazil’s World Cup exit. The move would have been Michael Carrick’s first signing of the summer.
United’s other midfield deal — the £50m signing of Andrey Santos from Chelsea, agreed earlier this week — is a separate negotiation and has not been reported as affected.
