A joint-record seven Premier League clubs will kick off the 2026/27 season under new management, in one of the biggest managerial reshuffles the English top flight has seen.
The headline is at Manchester City, where Pep Guardiola has ended his 10-year reign after winning 17 major trophies. His successor is a familiar face: Enzo Maresca, appointed on 29 June. The Italian previously coached City’s youth side and worked as Guardiola’s assistant during the 2018/19 treble season; City paid Chelsea compensation to bring him in.
There is upheaval at Liverpool too. The club parted ways with Arne Slot and moved quickly for Andoni Iraola, prising him away from Bournemouth. That triggered a knock-on move on the south coast, where Bournemouth turned to Marco Rose.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have handed the reins to Xabi Alonso, who started work on 1 July.
The changes don’t stop there. Crystal Palace have appointed Pierre Sage, Fulham have turned to Álvaro Arbeloa, and Ipswich Town have brought in Gary O’Neil. Manchester United bucked the trend, keeping faith with Michael Carrick after a strong finish to last season.
With so many new voices in the dugout — and the transfer window still open — the 2026/27 title race looks harder to predict than ever.
