The summer window opened on 15 June and runs until 1 September, and even with the World Cup in full swing, Premier League clubs are already reshaping their squads for 2026/27.
Tottenham have been the summer’s biggest spenders. Spurs paid a reported £92.5m for Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali — one of the biggest deals in the club’s history — and added West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes for around £85m.
Liverpool are rebuilding too, signing Rennes defender Jérémy Jacquet for about £55m. But the Anfield story of the summer is a departure: Mohamed Salah has left as a free agent, after club and player agreed to end his contract a year early following a difficult, well-publicised season. The Egyptian is widely expected to join the Saudi Pro League.
Salah isn’t the only marquee name leaving England. Anthony Gordon has joined Barcelona (a reported ~£69m), Marc Cucurella has moved to Real Madrid (around £50m), and Rasmus Højlund has signed for Napoli (about £40m).
At the top of the domestic market, Manchester City are reported to be signing Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson for a British-record fee — a sign of how aggressively the traditional powers are spending, with several clubs starting the season under new managers (more on that shake-up soon).
With the window open until September, expect plenty more before deadline day.
